It wasn't love at first sight.

When Ms. Coretta Scott first meet Martin Luther King Jr., she had no idea that he would one day be her husband.

Coretta, about meeting Martin: "...he was looking for a wife. I wasn't looking for a husband, but he was a wonderful human being...I still resisted his overtures, but after he persisted, I had to pray about it...I had a dream, and in that dream, I was made to feel that I should allow myself to be open and stop fighting the relationship. That's what I did, and of course the rest is history. "

Coretta Scott King Award

Coretta not only fought for civil rights, but she also encouraged reading and writing. The Coretta Scott King Award was created as a reward that recognizes African American authors and illustrators all around the world. Maya Angelou and Walter Dean Myers are among the many winners over the years.

Coretta Scott King Presents " The Freedom Concert"

Mrs. Coretta wan't always Dr. Martin Luther King's wife. Before she meet him, she was studying at the New England Conservatory of Music. She had fallen in love with music when she was a young girl, some people say it was a love that was shared between her mother and her. After she got married and became a mother, she had to put her career on the back burner. After years of forgetting about her first love, she was able to incorporate music to help raise money for the Civil Rights Movement. On November 15, 1964 she held a program called " The Freedom Concert" which was a musical about freedom that she played all around the world to raise money for the Civil Rights Movement.

The Dream Lives on In You and Me.

 Although Mrs. Coretta Scott isn't still alive today, her legacy lives on. She was a strong African American women, who went through struggles and even the lost of her husband to help African American in America gain civil rights. She is an example to all people because she is a true example of a person who never gave up on what she believed. Her husband had a dream and she never stopped believing that it would become a reality.
